This afternoon we are here at Mrs. Jackson’s home. This is a house in the La Brea neighborhood. This house has a lot of character. Architecturally the client has done a lot of work to it herself. She’s a builder so the house is done with a lot of beautiful touches including an entrance with high columns.

We’re going to be working on her family room area. In the family room area she wanted a little bit more character and she chose some colors to accomplish that. We have a lot of leather in there, dark leather so we chose to go with some greens and some plaids. So we are going to go ahead and take a look at the inside. So follow me in.

So we’re in the house now and Martin already started putting some of the swing rods up for the wrought iron wall decor. The goal in this house was to bring some of the beautiful outside colors inside the house. The wall colors are done in sort of an avocado, I would say pistachio green with just barely a touch of blue in it. And that was the whole idea, to bring that greenery from outside in.

Since it’s a family room, one of the things that you will find in color psychology is that the green brings a lot of peace into the living room. That’s what we were trying to do, to bring that peace into the room but at the same time it has to be a little bit uplifting. The way you do that is to bring in some red combined with the greens and to that we added some dazzles. Also for the room being eclectic, we chose to go with mission brown colors so that we could have that mission look that picks up the old world columns and the character of the house.

So now we are starting to put up some of the hardware and we ran into a little problem. The space between the ceiling and the molding is less than an inch. We predicted that so we came prepared. That’s also something that you always want to make sure that you are measuring, the clearance of the brackets for most drapery hardware and the space that it is between the molding and the ceiling.

I’m going to show you what I’m talking about up here, let’s take a look at it for a minute. OK looks like we now got it in and it seems like it’s going to work. We’ve got it, it’s lining up and I think we should be fine from here on.

Our client is a decorator so she’s picked out some really, really gorgeous colors. And this is what we are going to be putting in to bring color into the room. If you notice once we put it up against the wall you will find that we’ve got the same wall colors and we brought in the reds so that we could give it a little bit more of a pizazz. We also have cut this drapery fabric at an angle and the reason why we did that again is because we are using drapery scrolls. When using this type of custom window treatment, we cut the drapery at an angle to make sure it will accommodate the angle we are using for the wall.

For this size drapery scroll, which is a 27 inch scroll, I chose to go ahead and do two widths of fabric so it’s done really nice and full. This is our larger drapery scroll and our smaller scroll you can get away with doing one or one and a half widths of fabric but this particular one I chose two simply because they wanted it to be very lavish….(view caption for full transcript.)
