If you’re thinking about updating your kitchen what trends are worthy of your time, money and effort…well, let the countdown of kitchen trends 2016 begin.

Starting with the cabinets…a hot trend right now is mixing and matching colors for a more customized look. Use contrasting colors like these…white on top and darker gray below. You can choose to highlight your island with a contrasting color.

Upper cabinets are also being swapped out for open shelving, but be careful how you accessorize these or they could look like a cluttered mess.

Shaker-style cabinets are also very popular they’re sleek, clean with a touch of detail. A white kitchen is of course still trending, gray colors and even soft hues like green or blue are in and apparently the 80’s black on black kitchen is coming back…but I certainly don’t recommend using that trend if you’re selling your home.

Custom backsplashes in bold patterns and colors will be a new trend in 2016, again though this is a very taste specific trend so if you plan on selling use something more neutral. Also, play around with texture but not in the conventional way. Rather than mixing and matching textures use same texture in different patterns.

Continuing to trend are quartz countertops they’re resistant to heat, spills and scratches, making them a smart choice for families or busy cooks.

Why not try going automated over at the sink with a hands-free faucet. A splash of color is taking place of the traditional white farmhouse or stainless steel sinks this year…color is also making an appearance on oven faces however, unless you live in a trendy loft or use this new trend tasteful avoid installing these when selling.

Above the stove ditch the microwave and go for an awesome wood or metal range hood.

The most important trend is kitchens are becoming apart of the main living space so make sure you streamline your kitchen designs to match the adjacent rooms. The kitchen truly is becoming the heart of the home.

  1. Love the rustic open shelves and the color sinks. 😆😍 absolutely loved this.

  2. Great tips! I'm relieved my Shaker cabinets are still stylish and good thoughts on open cabinetry. It could just look messy.

  3. Thanks for your reply!

  4. Are microwaves still a necessity to sell a house and also which would you spend more on to sell a home, the refrigerator or an expensive cooktop and double oven? We have an investment house we're thinking of selling, but think balancing and choosing correctly where the house shines will be the key.

  9. Hi Tori!! Great tips!! I love the open shelving, but it would probably look really messy in my house. My family would not cooperate with that system. Tfs, have a great week! Liza :))

  10. Andrea's Elegant Touch

I like that black on black, but agree that it should not be used if you plan to sell. Thanks for the tips
